Digital Inclusion and Chocolate Talks at U3A Gravesham

Digital Kent members Bryony Goble and Doris Shaba-Jeffries were invited along to U3A Gravesham’s monthly meeting to talk about what we do and what help we can offer to their group. There was a huge group of people there from all over Gravesham and Northfleet, and it was great to speak to them. We gave a small talk on the help Digital Kent can offer, outlining our projects such as the Digital Champions Network and the Hardware Access Scheme, to showcase the support that is out there for those who are digitally excluded. We then listened to the main talk, called “Chocolate – Food of the Gods”. It was fascinating to hear all about the history of chocolate, delivered as if it were a Roald Dahl story!

We were also lucky enough to speak to one of their members, Ali Meherali, who has formed an IT group for U3A members called “Taming your Digital Tech”, with the aim of helping U3A members to make the most out of their smart phones, tablets and computers. Ali was so passionate about technology and helping those around him with their digital skills, we of course invited him to join our Digital Champions Network. There are already so many out there doing their part to tackle digital exclusion in Kent, and we are working to bring them together and provide whatever support they may need. It is people like Ali that make our project truly sustainable, creating a network of their own that local people can come to for digital help. We will definitely be along to see the work Ali is doing and offer support however we can!
